More about me!

Tell us about your past experience that you think is beneficial to lactation work.

I struggled myself with breastfeeding both of my children. I have experience with premature babies as well as babies with tethered oral ties and exclusive pumping. I view lactation as a team approach and I am just part of that team!

What led you to become a lactation consultant?

My first child was born premature and I was discharged with a baby not fully at breast, a nipple shield and was pumping 8-12 times a day. I wasn’t able to sustain it all and struggled which led me to exclusively pump. I felt like I had failed and that the follow up care was not there. I realized if I had struggled, how many others had done the same. I sought to change that by becoming a lactation consultant myself.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?

I am a HUGE fan of WonderWeeks app. I find it so helpful when babies have different behaviors to check the app and make the connection to where they are developmentally. Most parents struggle with knowing what is normal newborn behavior and it decodes it for them.

I also love dancing for birth, working with local providers such as mental health, physical therapy, speech, pediatric dentists and chiropractors.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?

Oh gosh, just pure joy! Carrying my own two babies I remember the connection and excitement (and the rough days too). I also just think about where that person is at and how I can best support them.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom as a lactation expert?

Empowerment. The ability to see all the things they are doing right and how their bodies are amazing and were meant to feed their baby. Sometimes just some encouragement and giving mom a boost is all that’s needed.
